In this video, I show you how to create a swatch gradient with Moonglow by Daniel Smith. This is an exercise that I highly recommend you try no matter where you are on your watercolor journey. By doing this you learn how to create variation in tone without worrying about creating a complex botanical painting. This exercise is also the best way to practice water control, which is the top challenge that watercolor students encounter while learning. For this reason I suggest you use the paper that you will be creating your botanical paintings on, as with practice over time water control will come to you without even having to think about it!
